37/ Environment Ministry, NGO Sign MoU to Boost Waste Sorting, Recycling in Ajloun

Ajloun, March 1 (Petra) – The Ministry of Environment signed a memorandum of understanding with the Environmental Bellis Association (EBA) under the executive program of the Cleanliness Strategy and Anti-Littering Initiative, aimed at strengthening the management, sorting, and recycling of non-hazardous solid waste.

The agreement was signed by the Ministry’s Secretary-General Omar Arabiyat and by EBA’s president, Jameel Al-Qurashi.

Arabiyat said the memorandum represents a step toward expanding participatory environmental action and enhancing the role of local communities in ensuring the success of waste sorting at source programmes. He noted that the ministry seeks to transform recycling culture into an established daily practice in schools and institutions.

He added that the ministry will provide the necessary technical, awareness, and advisory support and will oversee the implementation of joint programs in line with the objectives of the national cleanliness and anti-littering strategy, strengthening circular economy pathways, and preserving natural resources.

For his part, Al-Qurashi affirmed the association’s commitment to implementing awareness campaigns, distributing waste-sorting bins for paper and cardboard, plastic and metals, and following up on collection, transportation, and recycling operations according to organized mechanisms.

The provisions of the memorandum will be implemented in the governorate of Ajloun, contributing to environmental protection and advancing sustainable development pathways.
