15/ Minister: Strategic Food Stocks Secure, Supply Chains Stable Amid Regional Challenges
Amman, March 1 (Petra) – The Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply, Yarub Qudah, said the ministry has put in place measures to ensure the smooth functioning of supply chains and the continuous provision of goods to the local market and production sectors amid new regional conditions. In a statement on Sunday, Qudah underlined that the Kingdom’s strategic reserves of basic food commodities are "sufficient and secure, capable of meeting local market needs for extended periods due to stable supply operations and resilient supply chains." The minister noted that the ministry monitors daily the stock levels of essential commodities, including wheat, barley, rice, sugar, oils, and legumes, to ensure uninterrupted availability in local markets. He highlighted proactive measures to strengthen food security, including diversifying import sources, enhancing cooperation with the private sector, and regulating exports of basic food commodities. Export of certain essential items is permitted only under official approvals, helping maintain market stability and ensuring goods are available to citizens at reasonable prices. Qudah added that ministry oversight teams are intensifying field inspections across governorates to monitor commodity availability, enforce market regulations, and prevent practices that could disrupt prices or supplies. He reassured the public that local markets currently display a clear abundance of food commodities and urged citizens to avoid panic buying, noting that strategic reserves are sufficient to meet national needs. //Petra// AJ
