7/ 15 Jordanian Universities Advance in QS World University Rankings 2027

Amman, June 19 (Petra)-- Fifteen Jordanian universities have secured prominent positions in the QS World University Rankings 2027, one of the world's most influential and widely recognized higher education ranking systems.

The University of Jordan ranked first nationally, achieving 326th place globally, marking a significant leap of 44 positions compared with last year's ranking. The achievement is considered one of the most notable successes recorded by Jordanian universities in recent years.

Jordan University of Science and Technology was ranked among the world's top 500 universities, placing 449th globally. Amman Ahliyya University followed in 643rd place, while Applied Science Private University was ranked within the 761–770 band and the German Jordanian University within the 771–780 band.

Yarmouk University also entered the world's top 1,000 universities, ranking within the 901–950 category. It was followed by several other Jordanian institutions, including Middle East University, Mutah University, Hashemite University, Al-Balqa Applied University, Amman Arab University, Jadara University, Petra University, and Zarqa University, all of which were placed among the world's top 1,500 universities.

The QS ranking evaluates universities based on several indicators, including academic reputation, research impact measured through citations, employer reputation, graduate employability and leadership outcomes, international student recruitment, and contributions to sustainable development goals.

The ranking aims to identify universities whose academic performance, national role, and community impact meet international standards, while also helping prospective students choose suitable destinations for higher education.

University of Jordan President Dr. Nathir Obeidat said the QS ranking, regarded as one of the world's leading university rankings, extends beyond academic reputation to influence marketing, economic development, and institutional outcomes.

He noted that a strong QS ranking helps attract highly qualified local and international students, strengthens confidence among parents, employers, donors, and funding organizations, and serves as an effective tool for global branding and promotion.

Obeidat added that the ranking also carries economic benefits by attracting investment, expanding research partnerships with public and private sectors, increasing opportunities for international grants and funding, and supporting the local economy through spending by students, researchers, and visitors.

He emphasized that the University of Jordan now faces the challenge of maintaining and improving its global standing through sound governance, administrative development, adherence to international standards in teaching and research, and strategic planning based on comparative performance data. He also stressed the importance of enhancing graduate employability by aligning academic programs more closely with labor market needs.

Meanwhile, Amman Ahliyya University President Dr. Sari Hamdan said the advancement of Jordanian universities in the QS rankings reflects the continued development of the Kingdom's higher education sector and the success of its academic institutions in improving education quality, scientific research, and international engagement.

He attributed the progress to sustained efforts in enhancing research output, publishing in internationally recognized journals, and strengthening academic partnerships with global institutions, all of which have boosted the competitiveness of Jordanian universities and increased their ability to attract students and researchers from around the world.

Hamdan said the achievement demonstrates the growing strength of Jordan's scientific and research environment and confirms the country's ability to meet international standards while preparing graduates with the skills and knowledge needed to compete in local and global labor markets.

He added that the strong performance of both public and private Jordanian universities in international rankings enhances Jordan's reputation as a regional education hub and supports the Kingdom's vision of building a knowledge-based economy through investment in human capital and sustainable development.
