Irbid, June 15 (Petra) -- Princess Basma Teaching Hospital has successfully performed a vagus nerve stimulator implant for a patient with refractory epilepsy that does not respond to medication, the first procedure of its kind at Health Ministry hospitals in the northern region.

The procedure marks an advanced step in neurosurgery and reflects the progress the hospital has made in providing specialized medical services and complex surgical procedures, the hospital said in a statement on Monday.

The operation was carried out by a team of the Neurosurgery Department as part of efforts to expand access to advanced treatment services for patients in the northern region, it said.

Head of the Neurosurgery Department Dr. Muhannad Zoubi commended the medical team’s efforts for the success of the procedure.
