10/ Energy Minister Inaugurates Misting System at Rehab Power Station
Mafraq, June 15 (Petra) -- Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Saleh Kharabsheh inaugurated a new misting system at the Rehab Power Station on Monday, as part of efforts to enhance generation efficiency and strengthen the operational performance of the national electricity system. The project was launched during a ceremony organized by Samra Electric Power Generation Company to mark the 80th anniversary of the Kingdom's independence, in the presence of senior officials, parliamentarians and representatives of the energy sector. Speaking at the event, Kharabsheh underscored the importance of investing in advanced technologies that improve the efficiency and reliability of electricity generation facilities, praising efforts to implement the project in accordance with international technical standards. He noted that Rehab Power Station, the first combined-cycle power plant in the Kingdom, represents a key component of the national electricity network and accounts for approximately 37 percent of the country's electricity generation capacity. Kharabsheh described the station as one of the most efficient power generation facilities in the Kingdom and highlighted the broader role of the energy sector in supporting economic development and regional energy cooperation. He said the sector remains a source of national achievement, noting that existing infrastructure enables the supply of electricity to Iraq and Palestine, in addition to the delivery of natural gas to Syria. Samra Electric Power Generation Company Chief Executive Officer Sami Zawatin said the project forms part of the company's strategy to adopt innovative technological solutions aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and performance. He noted that the project was completed within the scheduled timeframe despite logistical challenges and regional developments that affected supply chains. Implemented at a cost of approximately JD1.3 million and financed by the National Electric Power Company, the project is expected to support the station's readiness to meet increased electricity demand during the summer season. The misting system operates by reducing the temperature of air entering gas turbines, helping mitigate the impact of high temperatures on generating units and restoring part of the generation capacity typically lost during hot weather conditions. The technology is also expected to increase available generation capacity during peak demand periods, contributing to the stability of the electricity system and strengthening energy security. Rehab Power Station, operated by Samra Electric Power Generation Company, has a generation capacity of 297 megawatts. //Petra// RZ
