9/ Water Authority Installs 500 Domestic Water Tanks In Southern Villages

Amman, June 14 (Petra) – The Water Authority's Media and Communication Department has completed the installation of 500 domestic water tanks, each with a capacity of 2 cubic meters, across several villages in the southern governorates of the Kingdom, the Ministry of Water and Irrigation announced Sunday.

The initiative is part of the "Strengthening Water Utilities" (SWU) project, carried out in cooperation with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), alongside the Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development (JOHUD).

According to the ministry's press statement, the distribution included the installation of 183 tanks in Al-Yarout village in the Karak Governorate, 150 tanks in the Al-Fardakh area of the Ma'an Governorate, and 167 tanks in the Abu Al-Bana area of the Tafileh Governorate. The project targets rural communities heavily impacted by water supply challenges, directly benefiting more than 3,000 citizens.

Omar Salameh, Assistant for Media and Communication Affairs, noted that the installation of these tanks expands household capacity to store water safely and reliably. He added that the infrastructure support secures daily household needs for drinking, cooking, and sanitation, while mitigating the impact of irregular water distribution schedules and stabilizing local utility services.

The SWU project focuses on improving resource management efficiency, supporting local host communities, and enhancing rural water supply networks. The broader program aims to optimize water use efficiency and build community resilience against water scarcity and climate change impacts, supporting national frameworks for long-term water sector sustainability.
