28/ Lebanon files complaint with UN Security Council against Israel
Beirut, June 14 (Petra) – The Lebanese government submitted two letters to the UN Security Council and the UN Secretary-General concerning Israeli use of prohibited chemical substance in southern Lebanon and the targeting of a Lebanese Army vehicle. In a statement issued Sunday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairts and Emigrants said it filed an official complaint on June 10, 2026, based on a report by the National Council for Scientific Research regarding the Israeli army's spraying of glyphosate over several villages along Lebanon's southern border on February 1, 2026. The Ministry stated that the Chemical Weapons Convention prohibits the use of herbicides as a method of warfare and called for urgent international action to halt what it described as ongoing Israeli violations. The statement added that a second letter was sent on June 11, 2026, addressing continued Israeli attacks on Lebanon, particularly the strike on a Lebanese Army vehicle on the Kfar Tebnit-Khardali road on June 6. According to the Ministry, the attack killed three military personnel, including a brigadier general, a captain and a soldier, while they were carrying out their duties in southern Lebanon. The Ministry called on the United Nations to condemn the attack and take immediate measures to end repeated violations and ensure compliance with the UN Charter and relevant international resolutions, nameley UN Security Council Resolution 1701. Separately, three people were killed and 15 others injured in an Israeli airstrike targeting the Ghobeiri area in Beirut's southern suburbs on Sunday afternoon. //Petra// AK
