Amman, June 14 (Petra) – Jordan joins the world on Sunday in celebrating World Blood Donor Day (WBDD), which falls on June 14 annually, to express gratitude and appreciation for voluntary blood donors and emphasize the ongoing need for a safe blood supply to save patients' lives.

In remarks to "Petra," Dr. Alaa Salameh, Director of the Blood Bank Directorate at the Ministry of Health, said the culture of blood donation is "deeply rooted" in Jordanian society, driven by citizens' firm belief in the values ??of benevolence and social solidarity.

Salameh affirmed the level of voluntary and regular blood donation is witnessing a "significant annual increase."

In 2025, Salameh noted the total number of blood donors in the Kingdom reached 284,545, while the Blood Bank Directorate "successfully" organized more than 250 blood donation campaigns, contributing to replenishing the national blood supply to meet the growing needs of hospitals and healthcare sectors.

Regarding the positive impact of blood donation, he said this process has a three-dimensional benefit for the donor, the recipient, and the community as a whole.

At the medical level, he noted donation enhances the donor's cardiovascular health, stimulates blood circulation and bone marrow to produce new blood cells, and provides psychological benefits, mainly satisfaction of contributing to saving a life.

Furthermore, he said the process ensures a "safe and sufficient" supply of blood for patients to treat chronic diseases, emergencies, and undergo surgeries, and reinforces a culture of social responsibility, solidarity, and mutual support within the community.

He added that the directorate maintains a database of voluntary donors with these blood types, which is committed to "continuously" honor blood donors, groups with rare blood types, and partner local community organizations, in recognition of their noble humanitarian efforts.
