21/ PSD Chief Opens New Community Peace Center in Amman

Amman, June 14 (Petra) -- Public Security Directorate (PSD) Director Maj. Gen. Obaidallah Maaytah on Sunday inaugurated the new Community Peace Center building in Amman's Shafa Badran district.

The facility, which was established in cooperation with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), aims to strengthen national efforts to promote social awareness, counter extremism and reinforce the values of moderation and community cohesion.

German Ambassador to Jordan Bertram von Moltke, senior officers from Bavaria State Police, GIZ representatives, national and international partners, and senior PSD officials attended the inauguration ceremony.

Talking at the opening ceremony, Maaytah said the new facility represents a significant achievement that reflects the PSD's "comprehensive" security strategy and its commitment to protecting individuals and society, while advancing modern and integrated concepts of security.

He said the project embodies an "advanced" security vision and a "productive" partnership with Germany that has helped translate the directives and vision of His Majesty King Abdullah II aimed at strengthening security and stability and building more resilient communities to address emerging challenges, particularly hurdles linked to ideology and digital media spaces.

For his part, von Moltke praised the PSD's efforts to promote community peace and address modern security and intellectual challenges.

He said the center reflects a proactive approach to prevention and public awareness, noting that Germany's support for the project stems from its close partnership with Jordan and shared efforts to combat extremism, online recruitment and threats to security and stability.

Head of the Community Peace Center presented an overview of the project, outlining its strategic objectives and the role it will play in supporting initiatives focused on community awareness, preventing extremism and online recruitment, and strengthening effective community partnerships.

The ceremony also featured a short film highlighting the center's mandate, facilities of the new building and its modern capabilities designed to support awareness and training programs, further strengthening the center's role and national mission in promoting community peace, moderation and social cohesion.
