47/ Hashemite University Researchers Win International Grant to Study AI

Governorates, June 11 (Petra)-- Two researchers from the Faculty of Engineering at the Hashemite University have secured an international research grant from the SWANA Future of Work Hub at the American University of Beirut, a program funded by the Government of Canada.

Dr. Mustafa Al-Rawashdeh and Dr. Mohammad Hayajneh were awarded the grant to examine the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) and remote work on the workforce across the region. The project is being conducted in partnership with a research team from the University of Jordan.

The grant supports their research project, titled "Algorithmic Management and the Future of Delivery Work in Jordan: An Empirical Study Using Artificial Intelligence and Internet of Things (IoT) Technologies." The study aims to explore how algorithmic management and emerging digital technologies are reshaping working conditions in the delivery services sector.

Using AI tools and IoT-based sensing technologies to collect and analyze data, the researchers will assess labor market transformations and examine the future of jobs within the sector.

Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Adnan Maqtash, said the achievement reflects the university’s strong research capabilities and the ability of its scholars to compete successfully for international research funding. He noted that the university continues to leverage advanced technologies, particularly AI and IoT, to generate scientific knowledge with tangible societal impact.

The SWANA Future of Work Hub at the American University of Beirut is part of the global FutureWORKS initiative, funded by Canada's International Development Research Centre (IDRC). The program promotes high-quality, innovative research addressing key challenges and opportunities related to the future of work, skills development, decent employment, and labor market dynamics across the South West Asia and North Africa region.
