45/ Cybersecurity Center Warns of Rising World Cup 2026 Online Scams
Amman, June 11 (Petra)-- The National Cyber Security Center has warned of a growing number of online fraud attempts exploiting the excitement and anticipation surrounding the 2026 FIFA World Cup, urging citizens to remain vigilant and strengthen their digital awareness to avoid falling victim to cybercriminals. The center said scammers are creating fake websites that claim to sell match tickets or offer World Cup-related services, while also distributing suspicious links and fraudulent messages containing fake promotions and non-existent prizes. It urged the public to purchase tickets and related services only through official and authorized platforms, avoid clicking on unverified links or those received from unknown sources, and enable two-factor authentication to better protect personal accounts. The center also stressed the importance of verifying the legitimacy of any offer before providing personal information or making online payments. It specifically warned against messages claiming recipients have won free tickets or offering travel packages and visa services at unrealistically low prices. Citizens were advised not to share personal or banking information through unfamiliar links and to always verify the credibility of entities conducting business online. The center emphasized that enthusiasm for the tournament should not lead people to become victims of cyber fraud, calling on the public to verify information carefully before clicking on links or completing payments in order to safeguard their personal and financial data. //Petra// MF
