23/ Senate President Calls for Unified Arab Parliamentary Vision to Address Regional Challenges
Amman, June 11 (Petra) -- Senate President Faisal Fayez called on the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union and Arab parliamentary institutions to develop a unified parliamentary vision that addresses the challenges facing the Arab world and supports efforts to achieve sustainable security, stability and development across the region. Speaking during a virtual meeting of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union, Fayez stressed the need for closer coordination between Arab legislative and executive authorities to confront regional challenges and safeguard Arab interests. The meeting, held via Zoom under the theme "An Arab Parliamentary Vision for a More Stable and Sustainable Future," was chaired by the Speaker of the Saudi Shura Council and attended by speakers of Arab parliaments and Shura councils. Fayez underscored the importance of strengthening joint Arab action and building an integrated Arab framework politically, economically and militarily, while enhancing collective Arab security and defense mechanisms to protect the region from external interference and preserve its security and stability. He said the Arab world is facing highly sensitive and complex circumstances, pointing to the Iranian attacks targeting the security and stability of Jordan and Gulf Cooperation Council countries, alongside the continued Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people and ongoing attacks on Syria and Lebanon. Fayez said these developments require Arab parliamentary institutions to intensify parliamentary diplomacy through engagement with regional and international parliaments to highlight the consequences of regional conflicts on global stability, energy supplies, food security and international trade. He said Arab countries possess significant human and economic resources that could enable them to become a major regional and global force capable of protecting their interests and strengthening independent political and economic decision-making. Fayez affirmed that Jordan, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, will continue supporting Arab causes and coordinating with Arab countries to address common challenges. He also highlighted the commitment of the Senate and the Lower House of Parliament to strengthening cooperation with Arab parliamentary institutions in support of shared interests and the aspirations of Arab peoples for greater unity and integration. He commended the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union's role in advancing Arab parliamentary cooperation, strengthening ties with regional and international parliamentary organizations, and supporting Arab causes through parliamentary engagement. //Petra// AJ
