Amman, June 9 (Petra) -- The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has highlighted Jordan's historic first appearance at the FIFA World Cup, describing the national team as an emerging football force carrying the ambitions of a rising football nation.

On its official website, the AFC said Jordan's "Nashama" are aiming to create their own legacy in their maiden World Cup campaign.

Jordan will open its campaign against Austria at the San Francisco Bay Area Stadium on June 17 before facing two major tests against Algeria and Argentina on June 23 and 28, respectively.

The AFC's remarks came as part of its overview of the Asian teams competing in the tournament, praising Jordan's landmark qualification and participation in football's premier global event.
