41/ EU imposes sanctions on two Iranians and one entity over maritime navigation threats
Amman, June 8 (Petra) -- The European Council announced on Monday that it has adopted restrictive measures against two individuals and one entity under an expanded legal framework targeting those involved in Iranian actions and policies that threaten the freedom of navigation in the Middle East. In a statement on Monday, the European Council clarified that Iranian actions in the Strait of Hormuz "violate international law and infringe upon established rights of both transit passage and innocent passage through international straits." According to the statement, the newly sanctioned entity is the Hormozgan Provincial Command of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy (IRGCN), which is already on the EU sanctions list. The measures also target two Tehran regime officials for supporting Iranian actions that "obstruct lawful transit and freedom of navigation." These individuals are Mohammad Akbarzadeh, who serves as the deputy commander for political affairs and official spokesperson for the IRGC Navy; and Hamid Hosseini, a representative of the Iranian Oil, Gas and Petrochemical Products Exporters' Union and a member of the Iran Chamber of Commerce. //Petra// AF
