14/ Trade Unions Federation, ILO Discuss Strengthening Partnership, Advancing Decent Work Standards

Amman, June 4 (Petra) -- President of the General Federation of Jordanian Trade Unions Khaled Fanatseh discussed with Director-General of the International Labor Organization (ILO) Gilbert Houngbo ways to strengthen cooperation and partnership to advance decent work standards for Jordanian workers and address key labor issues at the national level.

The discussions took place on Wednesday evening on the sidelines of the 114th session of the International Labor Conference, currently underway in Geneva.

According to a Federation statement issued Thursday, the two sides reviewed developments related to Jordan's Decent Work Country Program, launched early last month, and discussed mechanisms to strengthen the role of social partners in implementing its objectives.

The discussions focused on efforts to support labor policy development, improve working conditions, and enhance worker protection and trade union representation.

Fanatseh highlighted initiatives aimed at promoting gender equality in the labor market, noting that women accounted for 25 percent of Jordan's delegation to this year's International Labor Conference, reflecting stakeholders' commitment to advancing women's participation and empowerment.

The meeting also addressed regional developments and the impact of ongoing crises on labor markets and social stability. Participants underscored the ILO's role in protecting workers during crises and emergencies and in supporting countries and communities facing economic and social challenges.
