38/ Mexican film "Museum" takes centre Stage at Amman’s Ibero-American Film Week

Amman, June 3 (Petra) – The fourth edition of Ibero-American Film Week opened on Tuesday evening at the outdoor theater of the Royal Film Commission in Amman with a screening of the acclaimed Mexican drama The Museum.

The event is organised by the Royal Film Commission in cooperation with the embassies of Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Panama, Spain and Venezuela in Jordan.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mexican Ambassador to Jordan Jacob Prado expressed pride in launching the festival with The Museum, describing it as one of Mexico's most prominent films in recent years and noting its widespread international critical acclaim.

Prado highlighted the film's participation in the official competition of the 2018 Berlin International Film Festival, where director Alonso Ruizpalacios won the Silver Bear for Best Screenplay.

He noted that the film received positive reviews worldwide and earned an 87 per cent rating on the review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes.

The ambassador thanked the Royal Film Commission for its cooperation in organising the screenings, emphasising their role in promoting cultural dialogue and artistic exchange between Latin American countries and Jordan.

He added that the film, based on a true story, explores themes of national identity and cultural heritage in Mexico.

The screening was attended by a large audience of film enthusiasts, members of the Mexican community, representatives of the diplomatic corps and individuals interested in cultural and artistic affairs.

Directed by Alonso Ruizpalacios and released in 2018, The Museum stars Gael Garc?a Bernal and Leonardo Ortizgr?s. The drama-crime film is based on one of the most notorious antiquities thefts in Mexican history.

The story centers on the 1985 burglary of the National Museum of Anthropology in Mexico City, during which more than 140 pre-Columbian artifacts were stolen.
