18/ Gov't, GIZ partner to enhance energy efficiency for public workers
Amman, June 3 (Petra) –With support from German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, in coordination with the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply and the German Energy Academy in Jordan, held ad hoc awareness workshops as part of the National Capacity Building Program in Energy Efficiency. According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Energy on Wednesday, the events targeted employees of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, aimed to promote rationalized energy consumption and improving its efficiency in government buildings. Talking at the sessions, Director of Energy Efficiency and Climate Change Directorate at Ministry of Energy, Lina Mubaideen, said the workshops are part of the ministry's ongoing efforts to promote a culture of energy efficiency in Jordan's public sector and build the capacities of employees in government institutions. She noted this effort aligns with the National Energy Strategy and the government's plans to reduce energy consumption and improve its efficiency. She stated the National Capacity Building Program in Energy Efficiency focuses on creating "positive" changes in daily energy consumption behaviors within the workplace, which would sustainably save electricity and reduce operating costs for public facilities. She urged partnerships with local and global organizations that support implementation of specialized training and awareness initiatives. For her part, Assistant Secretary-General of Ministry of Industry, Yasmin Khraisat, said sessions aimed to raise worker awareness on the best practices related to optimal energy use. "Rationalizing consumption and improving energy efficiency are fundamental pillars of the government's efforts to reduce operating expenses and enhance sustainability in the public sector," she pointed out. Rafael Wiese, Project Manager of the German Energy Academy in Jordan, representing the donor agency GIZ, said GIZ is implementing this program on behalf of the German government, in support of national efforts aimed at promoting energy efficiency in government institutions. He noted the program, in its previous phases, brought together employees from the Ministries of Labor and Finance, and is now continuing its activities at the Ministry of Industry under a series of awareness workshops for public sector workers. He said these efforts aim to promote positive behaviors for energy efficiency. "Rising energy costs pose an increasing challenge to both the public and private sectors, adding that government buildings represent a significant opportunity to achieve tangible energy savings by adopting simple and effective measures within the workplace," he said. The workshops featured interactive sessions that addressed energy efficiency concepts and the best practices in public buildings and reviewing behavioral and technical procedures to reducing consumption and sustainably save energy. //Petra// AG
