18/ Inter-Governorate Buses to Feature Electronic Payment, GPS, Wi-Fi Services
Amman, July 16 (Petra) -- The Land Transport Regulatory Commission is equipping buses on the Ma'an-Amman route with electronic payment, GPS tracking, Wi-Fi, and other intelligent transport technologies ahead of the launch of the service under the second phase of the inter-governorate transport development project. The systems, being installed in cooperation with Amman Vision for Investment and Development, include electronic payment, GPS tracking, closed-circuit television (CCTV) surveillance, and Wi-Fi, enabling real-time fleet monitoring while enhancing passenger convenience, safety, and service quality. The commission said Wi-Fi is one of the key additions introduced during the second phase, particularly on long-distance routes, allowing passengers to remain connected throughout their journeys. The service will also enable university students to access educational platforms and complete academic work while commuting. To support implementation, two technical stations have been equipped to install intelligent transportation systems on buses serving the remaining routes included in the second phase, a step expected to accelerate deployment and keep the project on schedule. The second phase covers nine main routes linking the Kingdom's governorates and includes the operation of 210 buses and minibuses fitted with advanced intelligent transportation systems. The commission said installation of the systems will continue progressively across all second-phase routes in preparation for their launch under the approved implementation plan. The project is part of Jordan's broader efforts to modernize public transport and advance smart and sustainable mobility in line with the Kingdom's economic modernization and digital transformation goals. //Petra// AJ
