Aqaba, July 15 (Petra) -- A project organizing the entry and exit of trucks in the Aqaba Special Economic Zone registered approximately 445,000 truck trips between March 1 and June 30, 2026, under its new operator, Maqta Ayla, according to data released by the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) on Wednesday. The daily average reached about 3,700 trips over the four months, the authority said in a statement. June recorded the highest activity during this timeframe, with completed permits rising to approximately 125,000, up 20% from nearly 105,000 permits in May. A monthly breakdown of completed permits showed 106,000 in March, 108,000 in April, 105,000 in May, and 125,000 in June. The daily average of trips rose to around 4,200 in June, compared to the four-month average of 3,700, with a single-day peak of 4,920 trips recorded during the month. Compared to 2025, when the daily average stood at approximately 3,000 trips, average truck traffic during the current period rose by 23%, indicating a clear increase in freight flows into the Aqaba zone. The results point to growing logistics activity through Aqaba amid regional developments, reinforcing its role in supporting trade, transport, and supply chains, while highlighting the ongoing need to manage traffic flow efficiently. //Petra// AF
