  62/ Army chief meets US defense official, opens joint military commission meeting

Amman, July 15 (Petra) -- Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Maj. Gen. Yousef Hunaiti met on Wednesday with US Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs Daniel Zimmerman and his accompanying delegation to discuss military cooperation and regional stability.

During the meeting at the General Command headquarters, the two sides discussed ways to enhance strategic partnership across various defense and security fields to support regional and international stability.

Following the bilateral talks, Huneiti opened the 45th meeting of the U.S.-Jordan Joint Military Commission (JMC 45). The opening was attended by the US Ambassador to Jordan, the defense attaché, and senior officers from the Jordan Armed Forces.

Huneiti highlighted the strength of Jordanian-US relations and emphasized the importance of unifying efforts and expanding coordination to address current security challenges, reiterating Jordan's pivotal role in supporting regional security.

For his part, Zimmerman praised the high level of professionalism and efficiency of the Jordanian military, reaffirming Washington's commitment to supporting and expanding military and defense cooperation with Amman.

The US Ambassador to Jordan also commended the partnership, noting the importance of building on achievements to bolster mutual security interests.

The committee discussed several key items on its agenda aimed at expanding the defense partnership to achieve shared strategic goals.
