38/ Jordan's Digital Health Centre delivers telemedicine services to 97,000 in first year
Amman, July 15 (Petra) – The Ministry of Health's Digital Health Centre has provided telemedicine services to nearly 97,000 patients across multiple medical specialties since its inauguration in July 2025, a milestone in the Kingdom's digital healthcare transformation. The centre's services comprise remote radiology reporting, medical supervision of dialysis sessions, intensive care unit (ICU) monitoring and specialised consultations in diabetes, endocrinology, cardiology and nutrition through primary healthcare centres. The initiative has contributed to improving healthcare delivery and strengthening clinical and social health indicators across the Kingdom. Director of the Digital Health Centre, Dr Imad Abu Yaqeen, told the Jordan News Agency (Petra) that the centre operates under a royal vision and with the direct support and close follow-up of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II. He said this backing has accelerated the project's expansion and development, enabling digital healthcare services to reach remote and underserved communities. Abu Yaqeen said the initiative has eased the burden on Jordanians by reducing the need to travel for medical consultations and follow-up care, resulting in significant savings for patients while improving the efficiency of healthcare spending. Since its launch, the centre has issued 43,082 remote diagnostic radiology reports, helping reduce waiting times for imaging results and enabling faster implementation of treatment plans, he added. The centre remotely monitored 630 kidney patients during a total of 50,700 dialysis sessions, improving the quality of dialysis care and reducing complications associated with kidney failure. In intensive care, the centre remotely monitored 1,964 ICU patients, contributing to lower mortality rates, reducing the need to transfer critically ill patients between hospitals and decreasing readmissions to intensive care units following recovery, Abu Yaqeen said. At the primary healthcare level, the telemedicine diabetes and endocrinology clinic served 843 patients, while the digital cardiology clinic followed up with 475 patients. The nutrition clinic recorded 91 patient visits. Abu Yaqeen said the centre's services have saved patients considerable time and effort while reducing referrals to hospitals and outpatient specialty clinics. He added that the Digital Health Centre continues to operate under an ambitious expansion plan within the framework of the National Council for Future Technology's initiatives and in line with the Crown Prince's directives to integrate advanced digital technologies into Jordan's healthcare system. The effort aims to improve healthcare services while easing the burden on patients, healthcare professionals and administrative staff. Currently, 12 hospitals across the Kingdom are connected to the Digital Health Centre through the telemedicine network, along with three primary healthcare centers. Plans are underway to expand the network and introduce additional digital health services. //Petra// AK
