23/ University of Jordan implemented 'wide' maintenance project at JD120M- Obeidat
Amman, July 15 (Petra)-President of University of Jordan (UJ), Dr. Nathir Obeidat, has completed a comprehensive project to develop its educational environment. Under this project, he said the maintenance covered 400 classrooms and 25 lecture halls, which were equipped with the latest educational technologies and e-connectivity, at a cost of JD120 million without incurring any debt on the university. His remarks came during a dialogue seminar hosted by the Amman Group for Future Dialogues Tuesday evening. Regarding scientific research, Dr. Obeidat stated the challenge comes from turning scientific research outcomes into practical applications that support the industrial and productive sectors and contribute to strengthening the national economy and innovation. Obeidat said engagement of university students in Jordan's political and party life "remains limited, necessitating the strengthening of political awareness and encouraging students to engage in public life." Additionally, he revealed the university is continuing its project to automate educational content, noting 1,500 educational materials have been digitized so far, as part of the expansion of blended and e-learning, keeping pace with global developments in the education sector. In closing comments, he announced the university offers TOEFL test in Arabic and asks all students to complete 6 credit hours of Arabic language courses, which enhances their linguistic proficiency and preserves status of the Arabic language. As for skills development, he said the university requires all its students to complete 9 credit hours of English language courses during their first 2 years, due to its importance in the local and international job market. //Petra// AG
