39/ Jordan, Lebanon discuss expanding labour cooperation
Amman, July 14 (Petra) – Minister of Transport and Minister of Labour Nidal Qatamin and Lebanese Minister of Labour Mohammad Haidar on Tuesday discussed cooperation in the labour sector with a focus on exchanging expertise to address labour market needs. The talks took place during Qatamin's meeting with Haidar and Deputy Lebanese Ambassador to Jordan Joelle Anton at the Ministry of Labour. The two ministers agreed to maintain close coordination. They agreed to develop mechanisms for implementing the memorandum of understanding on labour cooperation signed during the eighth session of the Jordanian-Lebanese Joint Higher Committee, held earlier in 2026 in Beirut. Discussions covered cooperation in vocational training, labour inspection, occupational safety and health, support for self-employment initiatives targeting small and medium-sized enterprises and the integration of persons with disabilities into the labour market. Qatamin said the Ministry of Labour is committed to maintaining close communication with its Lebanese counterpart. Haidar, in turn, commended Jordan's efforts to deepen cooperation through the memorandum of understanding, describing it as an important framework for exchanging expertise and strengthening the labour partnership between the two countries. //Petra// AK
