55/ AVTR, JAC sign deal to install recycling systems at Amman city airport

Amman, July 13 (Petra) -- The Amman Vision for Treatment and Recycling (AVTR) and the Jordan Airports Company (JAC), which manages Amman City Airport (Marka), signed a cooperation agreement on Monday to install and operate smart recycling machines across the airport's facilities.

The initiative aims to promote environmental sustainability and encourage passengers and airport employees to sort waste at the source.

Ahmed Al-Azzam, JAC Chief Executive Officer, and Amjad Al Anaswah, AVTR Chief Executive Officer, signed the agreement.

AVTR said the partnership is part of its efforts to expand smart sorting solutions and build active partnerships within the transportation sector to boost recycling rates, reduce waste, and support the circular economy.

Al Anaswah said the partnership is a significant step toward embedding a culture of sustainability within vital national infrastructure, noting that the airport historically known as Marka Airport serves as an ideal gateway for smart environmental initiatives.

Under the agreement, AVTR will supply, install, operate, and maintain reverse vending machines for plastic bottles and aluminum cans within the airport. The company will also transport the collected materials for processing in accordance with approved environmental standards and provide technical and educational support to airport users.

The agreement serves as a launchpad for a wider national network of reward-based recycling machines. AVTR plans to roll out the machines across Jordan, targeting airports, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) stations, universities, shopping malls, gas stations, and public parks.
