23/ Jordan, China Explore Farm Trade, Joint Agricultural Ventures

Amman, July 13 (Petra) -- Mahmoud Ouran, Director-general of the Jordan Farmers Union (JFU) and Chinese Ambassador, Guo Wei, discussed on Monday expanding agricultural cooperation, opening new export opportunities and launching joint farming projects.

Ouran said the union is working to open new Chinese markets for Jordanian horticultural products, particularly dates and olive oil, highlighting China's advanced capabilities in manufacturing agricultural machinery and equipment, fertilizers, pesticides, veterinary medicines and vaccines.

The visit, he said, aims to draw on China's advanced expertise in agricultural technology and smart farming, while opening avenues for training and capacity-building in modern techniques, an increasingly urgent need as climate change reshapes the agricultural sector.

Ouran and Guo also discussed establishing permanent Jordanian pavilions at the Canton Fair and exhibitions organized by Chinese agricultural cooperatives to promote Jordanian products.

The talks also covered joint projects in tomato juice production and tomato drying, as well as the establishment of a factory specializing in potato processing to capitalize on the Kingdom's surplus production.

Both sides affirmed their commitment to deepening agricultural cooperation in ways that serve Jordanian and Chinese farmers and support long-term food security.
