4/ Awqaf ministry launches clean-up campaign in downtown Amman

Amman, July 11 (Petra) –Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs launched a clean-up campaign in downtown Amman on Saturday, with the participation of volunteers from Quranic centers.

This initiative is part of the implementation of the National Cleanliness and Anti-Indiscriminate Waste Dumping Strategy for the years 2026-2027.

The campaign, themed: "A Cleaner Environment and a More Refined Society," began at Amman's Citadel, and concluded at the Grand Husseini Mosque, as a part of the ministry's ongoing program of clean-up campaigns across the Kingdom.

In a press statement, the Ministry's Secretary-General, Dr. Ismail Khatib, said the ministry continues to implement His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein's directives, aimed at promoting a culture to preserve the environment, public facilities, and forests.

Khatib remarked this endeavor is "a national responsibility and a civilized behavior that reflects the level of societal awareness and patriotism."

Through its endowments directorates nationwide, he noted the ministry implements weekly field programs and activities within a comprehensive institutional framework.

He said this effort aims at promoting a culture of public cleanliness and civilized behavior from a religious and ethical perspective, in partnership with various relevant entities.

On its goals, he stated the ministry's plan to implement the national strategy seeks to organize thousands of sermons, lectures, launch field cleanliness campaigns, provide environmentally friendly tools in mosques, and produce awareness materials to raise the public's level of environmental awareness.

Under the initiative, volunteers cleaned public squares and facilities and removed waste, which would reduce pollution, preserve natural, archaeological, and tourist sites, enhance the civilized appearance of the downtown area, and highlight its historical and touristic value, particularly the Citadel, the Roman Amphitheater, and the Grand Husseini Mosque yards.
