9/ Investment Ministry Clarifies Misleading Radio Reports of Stalled Industrial Megaproject
Amman, July 8 (Petra) – The Ministry of Investment on Wednesday issued a comprehensive clarification regarding claims circulated by a local radio station alleging the failure of a major industrial project and the subsequent cancellation of a plan to relocate three factories from an Arab country to the Kingdom. In an official statement, the ministry clarified that after directly contacting the individual who made the claims on air, it was confirmed that the incident in question occurred more than 13 years ago – well before the establishment of the Ministry of Investment. The ministry further noted that when it requested the original investor's contact information to independently verify the details and look into the matter, the radio source refused to provide the investor's name or any identifying data. According to the limited information provided by the source, the proposed project site was located outside municipal zoning boundaries on privately owned land, where the investor planned to establish both the industrial project and a private personal facility. Due to its location, the site required the independent provisioning of necessary infrastructure services under the regulations and laws enforced at that time. The ministry emphasized that investment project requirements are fundamentally tied to a project's nature, location, and zoning classification under applicable land-use and urban planning laws to ensure sustainable development. Highlighting Jordan's current industrial capacity, the ministry stated that the Kingdom now features 20 industrial and development zones across various governorates. These zones offer fully integrated infrastructure and premium logistical services, hosting 1,676 economic and industrial enterprises with total investments exceeding 6.9 billion dinars, which collectively secure over 127,000 jobs. The ministry highlighted that these specialized zones have been tailored to the competitive advantages of each geographic region. During the first half of 2026, the industrial and development zones recorded an investment volume growth rate of 18.79%, underscoring rising investor confidence in the national economy. The statement reaffirmed the ministry's commitment to directly engaging with investors to overcome operational hurdles in coordination with relevant government entities. It concluded by pointing to the government's recent legislative and procedural overhauls, which include streamlining licensing, launching a unified digital investment platform, and upgrading investor window services to boost the Kingdom's global competitiveness. //Petra// AA
