Tashkent, July 8 (Petra) -- The Jordanian General Iftaa Department and the Fatwa Center at the Administration of Muslim Board of Uzbekistan signed a memorandum of cooperation on Wednesday to strengthen coordination in the fields of fatwa, scientific research, and jurisprudential studies, as well as to exchange expertise on contemporary religious issues.

The memorandum was signed on the sidelines of the First International Islamic Civilization Forum, held in the Uzbek capital, Tashkent, by Grand Mufti of the Kingdom Ahmed Hasanat and Head of the Uzbek Fatwa Center Nuriddin Kholiknazar.

Hasanat said the memorandum represents a step toward enhancing scholarly and jurisprudential cooperation between Jordan and Uzbekistan. He added that it would contribute to supporting research on contemporary Islamic jurisprudence, addressing emerging issues, promoting the values of moderation and balance, and expanding cooperation between the two institutions.

The memorandum includes cooperation in conducting studies and scholarly meetings of mutual interest, organizing specialized conferences, seminars, and workshops related to fatwa issuance, and coordinating the issuance of fatwas on public issues and contemporary matters of concern to Muslims. It also provides for training Uzbek personnel in fatwa-related work and preparing students to become muftis.

The memorandum comes as part of efforts to strengthen relations and joint cooperation between the two sides, with the aim of supporting the issuance of well-grounded scholarly fatwas, enhancing the role of research, and addressing emerging jurisprudential matters through a future-oriented approach.

The First International Islamic Civilization Forum is being held in Uzbekistan from July 7 to 11 under the theme " "A Path of Peace, Tolerance, Science, and Knowledge." The forum is attended by around 400 scholars, thinkers, decision-makers, and representatives of religious and cultural institutions from more than 50 countries.
