24/ Interior Minister Begins Official Visit to Syria

Amman, July 8 (Petra) – Interior Minister Mazen Faraya arrived in Damascus on Wednesday, marking the first official visit by an Arab interior minister to Syria since the fall of the former regime.

Faraya is scheduled to hold expanded meetings with Syrian Interior Minister Anas Khattab and other Syrian officials to discuss cooperation, including joint training, border crossing development, and efforts to combat drug smuggling.

Faraya and his accompanying delegation were received at Tishreen Palace by Khattab and several senior officials.

Upon arrival, Faraya stressed the importance of the visit in strengthening bilateral relations across various fields, particularly security cooperation.

He condemned the terrorist bombings that took place in Damascus, affirming Jordan’s :full" support for and solidarity with Syria in confronting violence and the intimidation of civilians.

Faraya said the visit, despite the current security circumstances, reflects both countries’ commitment to strengthening joint cooperation.

He also voiced Jordan’s confidence in the Syrian state’s capacity to move forward with reconstruction and consolidate security and stability.
