35/ Minister: New measures to expedite responses to audit bureau observations
Amman, January 28 (Petra) – Minister of State for Prime Ministry Affairs Abdul Latif Najdawi said on Wednesday that the team tasked with reviewing observations raised by the Audit Bureau has adopted new measures to expedite responses to all audit findings. Najdawi explained that, in line with directives from Prime Minister Jafar Hassan, the team would conduct periodic reviews, raise response rates to audit observations and link follow-up actions to public sector modernisation efforts. The measures include sustaining and enhancing operational procedures and assigning a dedicated follow-up team to ministries and institutions, which he said would help reduce violations across entities subject to the Audit Bureau's oversight. He noted that the team held a meeting on Wednesday at the Prime Ministry, during which it reviewed 33 inquiries recorded in November and December and registered against 22 institutions and entities. Najdawi said all necessary measures have been taken to address the issues and recover any funds that were improperly disbursed. He added that none of the cases discussed required referral to the Public Prosecution or the Anti-Corruption Commission. Some of the observations, he said, involved the unauthorised recruitment and employment of foreign workers, the payment of bonuses and allowances to project employees who failed to meet attendance requirements, delays in collecting funds owed to the treasury and irregularities in certain tenders. Najdawi pointed to violations related to procedures for appointing faculty members at some universities, as well as the unjustified disbursement of bonuses and allowances to municipal employees. //Petra// AK
