11/ Chief Islamic Justice, Syrian Awqaf Minister Discuss Cooperation

Amman, Jan. 28 (Petra) -- Chief Islamic Justice Abdul Hafiz Rabta on Wednesday received Syria’s Minister of Awqaf, Mohammad Shukri, in the presence of President of the Higher Sharia Court Kamal Smadi and several Sharia judges, as part of an official visit to the Kingdom.

Talking at the meeting, Rabta welcomed the delegation, underscoring the "deep-rooted and historic" Jordanian-Syrian relations.

Rabta also called for strengthening bilateral cooperation and coordination in line with His Majesty King Abdullah II's directives to advance joint pan-Arab action, provide the necessary support to Syrians, and facilitate cooperation avenues.

The two sides reviewed status of the Supreme Judge Department within Jordan’s Sharia justice system and its role in promoting social security and stability and safeguarding family cohesion within the framework of Islamic Sharia.

Talks also addressed a slew of issues of mutual interest, explored mechanisms to enhance cooperation, and went over strengthening mutual "institutional" communication and coordination to advance shared objectives.

For his part, Shukri expressed his thanks for the warm reception, commending the "leading" role played by the Supreme Judge Department and Jordan’s distinguished experience in Sharia and judicial affairs.

He affirmed Syria’s "keenness" to deepen cooperation and maintain joint continuous coordination.
