25/ Agriculture Ministry drilled 270 rainwater harvesting wells in Madaba in 2025-Official
Madaba, Jan. 27 (Petra) – Head of Madaba Agriculture Directorate, Bassam Abu Ghanam, announced the Ministry of Agriculture drilled 270 rainwater harvesting wells in this central governorate last year at a cost of JD411,000. Abu Ghanam said this initiative aligns with the ministry's policy of expanding well drilling operations and irrigation canal construction to "optimally" use rainwater quantities for home gardens, which would enhance food security. In remarks to "Petra" Tuesday, he said the ministry is continuing the project this year by allocating JD100,000 from the Governorate Council's budget to further expand the drilling activities of water harvesting wells, based on approved criteria. He also noted the ministry implemented projects focused on women's development, dairy and cheese processing plants, and greenhouses in Madaba, worth JD141,000. In this context, he added that these enterprises benefited approximately 100 citizens from the governorate's central municipality and Dhiban districts. Additionally, he stated the ministry carried out irrigation canal projects for farmers, valued at JD10,000 . Abu Ghanam indicated that the ministry implemented 6 afforestation projects last year in the governorate's areas of Siagha, Arish, al-Faisaliyah, Jabal Nebo, and Ma'in, covering ??430 dunams. Under the initiative , he said about 3,700 forest trees were planted, as well as 6,000 grazing plants in the Ma'in Rangeland Reserve, with ongoing care and maintenance. //Petra// AG
