25/ Heavy Snow, Rain Kill 61 in Afghanistan, Damage Hundreds of Homes
Amman, Jan. 24 (Petra) - At least 61 people have been killed in Afghanistan over the past three days due to heavy snowfall and torrential rains, which have also caused power outages and the closure of major roads in several provinces. The National Disaster Management Authority said in a post on X on Saturday that most of the deaths were recorded in central and northern provinces between Wednesday and Friday. Preliminary figures indicate that 110 people were injured and 458 homes were partially or completely destroyed. The emergency management department in the southern province of Kandahar announced that six children were killed after the roof of their house collapsed as a result of strong winds and heavy rain on Wednesday. Heavy snow and rainfall also destroyed shops and led to livestock losses in various parts of the country, most of them in rural areas. //Petra// AF
