21/ Aqaba Container Terminal Celebrates Historic Milestone of Handling 1 million TEUs in 2025

Amman, Jan. 24 (Petra) - Aqaba Container Terminal (ACT), the gateway to Jordan, the Levant region, and beyond, celebrated a historic operational milestone after handling one million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in 2025.

The achievement reflects the terminal’s operational excellence, the development of its advanced infrastructure, and its growing role as a leading regional hub for maritime transport and logistics services.

The celebration, held recently in Amman, was attended by Minister of Transport Nidal Katamine, the chairman and members of ACT’s board of directors, the chief executive officer of Aqaba Development Company, and strategic partners from shipping lines, trade unions, and official bodies.

Handling one million TEUs is the result of sustained investments and continuous development efforts over recent years. These included major infrastructure upgrades, the adoption of advanced and environmentally friendly equipment, and the implementation of innovative operational practices in line with the highest international standards.

These combined efforts have enhanced operational efficiency, supported environmental sustainability, and aligned terminal operations with national objectives for the transport and sustainability sectors.

The event featured speeches by ACT Chief Executive Officer Harald Nijhof, Chairman of the Board Samer Judeh, and Aqaba Development Company CEO Hussein Safadi, highlighting the importance of the milestone and the terminal’s role in supporting national and regional trade.

A documentary film was also screened, showcasing ACT’s key achievements in 2025, including growth in handling volumes, sustainability initiatives, carbon emission reduction measures, enhanced safety standards, and the company’s positive impact on the local community.

Nijhof said that handling one million TEUs represents a pivotal milestone in ACT’s journey, reflecting customers’ confidence, staff commitment, and the company’s long-term vision to strengthen Aqaba’s position as a competitive gateway capable of serving regional and global trade.

Judeh stressed the importance of public-private partnerships, saying ACT’s success is built on strong governance standards and effective cooperation between the public and private sectors, enabling long-term planning, enhancing accountability, and achieving high performance levels.

Safadi said the achievement underscores ACT’s commitment to future growth, continuous improvement, and innovation, with a continued focus on enhancing efficiency, safety, service quality, and developing national competencies in support of Jordan’s economic growth and competitiveness in the global transport and logistics sector.
