22/ Municipalities Launch Nationwide Tree-Planting Campaigns

Amman, Jan. 22 (Petra) -- Municipalities across Jordan on Thursday launched tree-planting campaigns under national afforestation and greening efforts to expand vegetation cover and improve urban environmental conditions.

In Karak Governorate, the Greater Karak, Southern Jordan Valley, and Shihan municipalities launched campaigns aimed at strengthening green cover, improving the urban landscape, and supporting the national target of planting more than 250,000 trees nationwide, according to statements by the municipalities.

In Tafilah Governorate, the Greater Tafilah, Busaira, Hasa, and Qadisiyah municipalities began field campaigns focusing on key public spaces and city entrances, planting about 3,000 forest and fruit trees with participation from youth, students, local communities, and municipal teams.

In Mafraq Governorate, the Greater Mafraq Municipality, in cooperation with local partners and community groups, launched a campaign to plant around 4,000 forest trees in several areas, aiming to expand green spaces, mitigate climate impacts, and advance a "Greener Mafraq" vision, with support from the Mafraq Agriculture Directorate.

Officials said the effort, launched to mark Arbor Day and in line with Ministry of Local Administration guidance, includes follow-up irrigation and maintenance to ensure long-term survival.
