2/ Cold, Rainy Conditions Today Ahead of Sharp Temperature Rebound on Friday

Amman, Jan. 22 (Petra) -- Cold and unsettled weather continues across the Kingdom on Thursday, bringing cloudy skies and intermittent light rain to several regions, before a noticeable and rapid rise in temperatures reshapes conditions on Friday.

Cloud cover dominates much of the country on Thursday, with cold weather prevailing in most areas and slightly less cold conditions in the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba. Light, scattered rain is expected at intervals in northern and central regions, while active southeasterly winds prevail, occasionally raising dust in desert areas.

The Jordan Meteorological Department warned of frost formation during the early morning hours over high mountain elevations and parts of the badia, in addition to occasional reductions in horizontal visibility due to dust, particularly in open desert regions.

A marked shift in weather conditions is forecast for Friday, as temperatures rise significantly to slightly above seasonal averages. Skies will turn partly cloudy, while cold conditions persist over mountainous areas and milder weather spreads across the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba. During the early morning hours, scattered rain showers may affect several regions, with a weak chance of thunderstorms in northern and eastern areas. Winds will turn westerly and remain moderate, becoming active at times.

By Saturday, temperatures are expected to dip slightly, restoring colder conditions to most regions, while low-lying areas remain relatively mild. Clouds will appear at varying altitudes, and light, scattered rain may develop during the afternoon in northern and central regions, extending at times into parts of the eastern areas. Moderate northwesterly winds will prevail.

A modest warming trend is forecast to resume on Sunday, with temperatures edging higher and conditions remaining cold in most regions but milder in the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba. Skies will feature intermittent cloud cover, while northwesterly winds continue at moderate speeds.

Temperatures on Thursday range between 10 and 6 degrees Celsius in eastern Amman and between 8 and 4 degrees in western Amman. The northern highlands record 7 to 3 degrees, while the Sharah highlands range between 9 and 2 degrees.

Desert areas see temperatures of 12 to 4 degrees, plains 10 to 6 degrees, and the northern Jordan Valley 18 to 9 degrees. In the south, the Jordan Valley reaches 21 to 12 degrees, while the Dead Sea and Aqaba record 20 to 11 degrees and 21 to 13 degrees Celsius, respectively.
