The MoU was signed by Yarmouk University President Malek Sharairi and the President of the Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University Nur Irfan bin Haji Zainal Abedin.

The agreement establishes an institutional framework for direct cooperation in scientific research through joint research programs addressing issues of interest to Islamic and international communities. It also covers cooperation in education and training, the exchange of academic expertise, the development of specialized curricula and training programs, student exchange, and the provision of study and training opportunities that enrich educational and cultural experiences.

It includes provisions for the exchange of graduate students, subject to meeting admission requirements and acceptance into practical training programs in the host country. Undergraduate students may also enroll in specific courses or programs, in addition to the organization of workshops and training activities of mutual interest.

The memorandum further provides for joint academic programs, faculty exchanges for teaching or research purposes, administrative staff exchanges for training, and the exchange of scientific publications between the two institutions.

Sharairi underlined the importance of strengthening academic and research cooperation with Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University, noting Yarmouk University’s commitment, as a comprehensive institution, to building bridges with universities across the Islamic world. He said this cooperation supports knowledge exchange, enhances academic excellence, and offers students and researchers opportunities to benefit from diverse scientific experiences.

He noted that Yarmouk University hosts one of the region’s largest faculties of Sharia, providing a strong foundation for cooperation, and said a focus on research and training would enhance educational outcomes.

Zainal Abedin expressed pride in the partnership with Yarmouk University, which dates back to 2007, citing its academic reputation and long-standing scholarly tradition. He said the MoU would open new avenues for joint academic work.

He added that Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University aims to expand its international partnerships in line with its strategy to internationalize higher education and promote sustainable development through research and knowledge exchange.
