  41/ Environment Ministry, UNICEF discuss cooperation

Amman, January 21 (Petra) Minister of Environment Ayman Suleiman on Wednesday met with UNICEF Representative in Jordan Mark Rubin to discuss ways to enhance cooperation.

The UNICEF delegation included Deputy Representative Shiroz Moji, Youth Section Chief John Trew, Adolescent and Youth Development Specialist Besan Abdel Qader and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Section Chief Jes?s Trelles.

The two sides reviewed areas of cooperation in climate action and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) programmes, as well as opportunities for strategic partnerships aimed at achieving sustainable impact and improving environmental and public health conditions, particularly for children and youth in Jordan.

Suleiman discussed the partnership with UNICEF as an effective international partner, noting that addressing environmental and climate challenges requires the integration of national and international efforts.

He called for strengthening programmes focused on building youth capacities, raising environmental awareness and improving water and environmental sanitation services.

UNICEF representatives expressed appreciation for the Ministry of Environment's efforts and affirmed the organisation's keenness to expand cooperation, particularly in initiatives that link climate action with water resource protection and the empowerment of children and youth, in line with national priorities and the Sustainable Development Goals.

The meeting comes as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen institutional partnerships and unify efforts in support of environmental and climate programmes with long-term impact, aimed at ensuring a healthy and safe environment.
