30/ Saudi-Jordanian Business Council convenes in Riyadh
Riyadh, Jan 21 (Petra) -- Chairman of the Jordan Chamber of Commerce, head of the Jordanian side of the Saudi-Jordanian Business Council, Khalil Al-Haj Tawfiq, on Wednesday called for turning the historically deep Jordanian-Saudi relations into practical economic outcomes that reflect the interests of both countries and provide real opportunities for the private sector and youth. "The Jordanian-Saudi relationship has over decades been built on trust, integration, and a unified stance, and a model of constructive Arab cooperation, he said in remarks at the Saudi-Jordanian Business Council, which opened in Riyadh. "Today, as we meet in Riyadh, we are translating this solid political legacy into organized economic action, led by the private sector, that responds to aspirations in the coming phase," he told the meeting, attended by Chairman of the Saudi side of the business council, Abdulrahman Al-Thubaiti, Vice President of the Federation of Saudi Chambers of Commerce, Imad Al-Fakhri, and Jordan's Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Haitham Abu Al-Foul, with the participation of representatives of the Federation of Saudi Chambers and business owners from both countries. Tawfiq said that much is expected of the private sector in both countries, especially in light of the rapidly evolving global challenges, most notably technological advancements and artificial intelligence, adding that joint committees are an essential tool to turn ideas into viable projects. The Jordanian delegation, comprising a select group of leading business figures and heads of economic sectors and unions, is the largest in the history of economic relations between the two countries, which reflects the Jordanian private sector's confidence in Saudi Arabia and opportunities for joint cooperation, he said. Tawfiq stressed the importance of reactivating the Jordanian-Saudi Business Council office in the Jordan Chamber of Commerce premises as a permanent headquarters for communication, follow-up, and implementing meeting outcomes. He reviewed opportunities for linking Saudi Vision 2030 with Jordan's economic modernization vision, pointing to potential joint projects in multiple sectors, including energy, tourism, and logistics, such as integration between major projects, like NEOM and Aqaba. For his part, Al-Thubaiti said relations between Saudi Arabia and Jordan are "a solid model of joint Arab cooperation, based on historical foundations of trust, respect, and shared interests." The leadership of both countries gives these relations special attention, and is keen to develop them, particularly in the economic, trade, and investment sectors, added the head of the Saudi side of the business council. He said the current phase offers significant opportunities to enhance the economic partnership between the two countries in light of ambitious development visions, notably Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 and Jordan's economic modernization vision, which have granted the private sector a pivotal role in driving growth, stimulating investment, creating job opportunities, and achieving sustainable development. The Saudi-Jordanian Business Council offers an effective institutional framework for organizing cooperation between the business communities of both countries, turning ideas into practical initiatives, and opportunities into tangible projects, he said. //Petra//SS
