24/ Jordan, Tunisia Discuss Boosting Economic Ties, Trade
Amman, Jan. 21 (Petra) -- Jordanian Businessmen Association (JBA) Chairman Ayman Alawneh and Tunisia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad Mohamed Ali Nafti on Wednesday discussed prospects for enhancing bilateral economic cooperation and mechanisms to develop it in ways that support trade exchange. The talks, attended by Tunisian Ambassador to Jordan Moufida Zribi, covered ways to activate the Jordanian-Tunisian Joint Business Council and strengthen cooperation between private-sector institutions in both countries. Nafti stressed the deep Jordanian-Tunisian relations, particularly in the economic sphere, underscoring the importance of increasing investment flows and trade volume, removing obstacles to investment, and enhancing networking between business communities, the JBA said in a statement. He spoek of the need to activate the Joint Business Council, and expressed interest in hosting a Jordanian economic delegation to explore investment opportunities in Tunisia, notably in information technology and medical tourism. Nafti pledged that Tunisia will provide facilities to ensure mutual investment flows, stressing the importance of developing executive programs and action plans to achieve economic integration and implement bilateral agreements. For his part, Alawneh said Jordanian-Tunisian relations are deep-rooted and historic, calling for building on them to further enhance the economic partnership. He urged activation of the Joint Business Council, established in 2016, given its key role in promoting private-sector cooperation and expanding trade and investment. The head of the JBA also highlighted the importance of increasing trade through enhanced air and maritime shipping, proposing the establishment of a maritime route linking Jordan, Tunisia, and Egypt to facilitate market access and trade flow, in partnership with relevant authorities and the private sector. He stressed the value of exchanging trade delegations, strengthening business-to-business communication, and leveraging competitive advantages in both countries. Alawneh called for an integrated economic and social plan to boost investment and intra-trade, including cooperation in tourism and medical tourism, citing Jordan’s comprehensive and competitively priced healthcare services. Ambassador Zribi underscored the vital role of the JBA in advancing economic cooperation, stressing the importance of activating the Joint Business Council to increase trade volume and boost Jordanian exports to the Tunisian market. Commercial Attaché Hisham Naji referred to promising opportunities for Jordan and Tunisia to access African markets, indicating efforts to organize a joint Jordanian-Tunisian delegation to strengthen business linkages and share expertise.
