21/ LH Foreign Affairs Committee, Bulgarian ambassador discuss ties, region
Amman, Jan. 21 (Petra) – The Lower House (LH) Foreign Affairs Committee, chaired by MP Haitham Ziyadin, on Wednesday met with the Bulgarian Ambassador to Jordan, Metin Kazak to ways to develop the friendly bilateral relations in various fields. Talking at the meeting held at the House's headquarters, Ziyadin underscored the "strong and deep-rooted" Jordanian-Bulgarian relations, which are based on mutual respect and shared interests. The MP noted Jordan views Bulgaria as an "important" partner within the European Union and an "effective" gateway for enhancing joint cooperation, particularly in the areas of trade, investment, transportation, and tourism. Ziyadin also stressed the importance of activating parliamentary diplomacy and strengthening the role of both countries' parliamentary friendship committees, which would contribute to expanding joint cooperation horizons and supporting Jordanian positions in international forums. On the Palestinian cause, Ziyadin expressed appreciation for Bulgaria's supportive stance on the two-state solution. Noting developments in the region, particularly the Palestinian issue, he said Jordan's position, under His Majesty King Abdullah II's leadership, is based on "firm" principles calling for a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue in accordance with international law. The committee members called for strengthening parliamentary, economic, and trade cooperation, and leveraging Jordan's "strategic" location as a gateway to regional markets. The MPs also highlighted the need to develop tourism exchange and open new avenues for cooperation in education, culture, and energy. In turn, the Bulgarian ambassador expressed his country's pride in the level of relations with Jordan, affirming his country's keenness to expand areas of bilateral cooperation and continue political coordination and consultation on regional and international issues of common interest. He commended the Kingdom's "pivotal" role, under His Majesty King Abdullah II's leadership, in promoting security and stability in the region. //Petra// AG
