  20/ TRC Transfers JD 95.6 Million to Treasury, Reports Gains in Internet Performance

Amman, Jan. 21 (Petra) – The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) transferred JD 95.646 million in revenues to the state treasury during the past year, according to its 2025 achievements report released Wednesday.

The report said the commission processed 25,026 customs declarations through its external offices, while the number of new and renewed type approvals reached 4,000. Import approvals of various categories totaled 2,300, and 135 exemptions were granted for fifth-generation network infrastructure.

The commission received 6,472 complaints during the year, resolving 5,926 of them. Of the total, 3,905 complaints related to internet services, 2,389 to mobile services, 96 to fixed-line services, 73 to postal services, and nine to vehicle tracking services.

According to the report, Jordan ranked 35th globally in fixed internet speeds by the end of November, with an average speed of 195 megabits per second. The Kingdom ranked 80th worldwide in mobile internet speeds, with an average speed of 46 megabits per second.

The number of newly issued frequency licenses reached 6,494, while 16,556 licenses were renewed and 2,447 amended. A total of 3,312 licenses were canceled. The number of satellite internet service stations stood at 520, and the total number of telecommunications licenses reached 57, including 37 class licenses and 20 individual licenses.

The report noted that 48 inspection tours were conducted to address interference across various frequency bands, in addition to 145 periodic and non-periodic surveys of specific bands. Fourteen microwave connection tests were carried out, 32 non-compliant radio devices were seized, and 62 devices were decommissioned or destroyed. The commission also addressed 48 cases of negative interference with FM broadcasting stations and conducted 30 inspection tours in response to health-related complaints.

In the postal sector, the total number of licensed operators reached 194, including 180 local and 14 international operators. A total of 74 postal licenses were granted during the year, in addition to one license for the public postal operator, the Jordan Post Company.

The report showed that fixed-line voice subscriptions reached 478,595 by the end of the third quarter of 2025, representing a household penetration rate of 19.4 percent. Residential subscriptions accounted for 67 percent, while business subscriptions made up 33 percent. By technology, 66 percent were voice over internet protocol, 25 percent public switched telephone network, and 9 percent integrated services digital network. Total call volume reached about 10 million minutes, with local calls accounting for 83 percent.

Mobile broadband subscriptions reached about 8.48 million by the end of the third quarter of 2025, with a penetration rate of 71.4 percent. Combined voice and data subscriptions accounted for 80 percent, while data-only subscriptions represented 20 percent. Postpaid subscriptions made up 35 percent, compared with 65 percent prepaid. Total voice traffic reached 7.2 billion minutes, 97 percent of which were domestic calls, while international calls accounted for 3 percent. The total number of text messages sent reached about 337 million.

Fixed broadband subscriptions reached about 824,273 by the end of the third quarter of 2025, representing a household penetration rate of 33.3 percent, while total data usage reached approximately 1.6 billion gigabytes.

The report also showed that the growth rate of fifth-generation subscriptions reached 307 percent in the third quarter of 2024, bringing the total number of subscriptions to 286,527 by the end of the third quarter of 2025, including 97,217 data-only subscriptions and 189,310 combined voice and data subscriptions.

Leased line subscriptions totaled about 25,529 by the end of the third quarter of 2025.
