  34/ Jordan, Syria discuss boosting youth and sports cooperation

Amman, Dec. 19 (Petra) - Minister of Youth Raed Adwan and his Syrian counterpart, Minister of Sports and Youth Mohammad Sameh Hamedh, discussed ways to enhance joint youth and sports cooperation between the two brotherly countries.

The talks took place during a bilateral meeting held by the Ministry of Youth on Monday, attended by HRH Princess Aisha bint Faisal, Secretary General of the Ministry of Youth Mazen Abu Baker, Chargé d’Affaires of the Syrian Embassy in Amman Ihsan Al-Rumman, UNICEF Representative in Jordan Marc Rubin, Secretary General of the Jordan Olympic Committee Rana Al-Saeed, Chief Executive Officer of Generations for Peace Laima Hattab, Deputy Secretary General of the Jordan Football Association Flayeh Al-Daajah, a number of ministry directors, and the accompanying Syrian delegation.

Adwan affirmed the depth of relations between the two brotherly countries, stressing the Royal interest and directives to provide support and assistance to the efforts of the Syrian Arab Republic in a manner that contributes to enhancing stability and opportunities for recovery and rebuilding its institutions.

He added that the meeting comes within the framework of strengthening cooperation in the youth and sports sectors and shared visions toward empowering youth and investing in their capacities as a strategic option with no alternative and a practical path that opens wide horizons for joint programs, capacity-building, and the exchange of expertise. He also referred to presenting the Jordanian experience in youth empowerment, preparing youth and sports facilities, and building national partnerships, expressing his hope that this official visit would constitute the starting point for youth and sports cooperation serving the youth of both countries.

For his part, Hamedh highlighted the importance of the meeting in learning about the Jordanian youth and sports experience and exchanging expertise and programs, expressing appreciation for the Kingdom’s hosting of the official meeting and Jordan’s support for the Syrian Arab Republic, as well as advancing various areas of joint cooperation.

In turn, Abu Baker said the ministry operates under a comprehensive national vision stemming from the firm belief of the Hashemite leadership that youth are the real wealth and the foundation of the future. He noted that the ministry seeks to empower youth through policies and programs aimed at building capacities, promoting positive values, and supporting youth initiatives across social, sports, cultural and voluntary fields.

The meeting included a presentation on the Ministry of Youth delivered by the ministry’s Director of Policies and Planning, Jihad Masaadah. Participants also reviewed the roles of the Jordan Olympic Committee, the Jordan Football Association, Generations for Peace and UNICEF in empowering youth and advancing the sports sector, underscoring the importance of opening horizons for joint cooperation between the two countries.
