Amman, Jan. 19 (Petra) -- Senegal lifted the Africa Cup of Nations trophy after a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Morocco in the final, played in Morocco early Monday.

The tightly contested match remained scoreless throughout normal time, forcing extra time, where Senegal finally broke the deadlock in the first additional period.

Morocco came agonizingly close to changing the outcome when Ibrahim Diaz missed a stoppage-time penalty, a moment that ultimately dashed the hosts’ hopes of lifting the title.
