Amman, Jan. 19 (Petra) - Minister of Transport Dr. Nidal Katamine chaired a meeting on Monday to discuss the possibility of developing a multimodal transport services system in the Petra District, attended by Secretary-General of the Ministry of Transport Fares Abu Dayyeh, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission (CARC) Captain Dhaifallah Farajat, Chief Commissioner of the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA) Fares Breizat, and relevant stakeholders, as part of efforts aimed at improving the tourism transport system in the area.

During the meeting, the minister stressed the importance of studying multimodal transport options as one of the pathways supporting tourism, given the modern transport solutions they can provide to facilitate visitors’ access and improve their experience, in line with the archaeological site’s character and conservation requirements, in addition to their role in improving the efficiency of logistics associated with visitor flows and supporting services.

The meeting discussed technical and regulatory aspects and safety requirements, as well as proposed operating mechanisms and means of coordination among relevant stakeholders, in a manner that ensures the future provision of specialized transport services in accordance with the highest approved standards and supports the logistics system and services provided to visitors.

The meeting also examined prospects for integration between multimodal transport services, tourism, and related logistics and service activities, and reviewed next steps and the expected timetable for related studies and procedures, contributing to raising the efficiency of tourism transport services in Petra.

This direction comes within efforts aimed at enhancing Petra’s status as a major global landmark through developing an integrated multimodal transport and logistics system that contributes to improving visitors’ experience and achieving added value for the national economy.
