  16/ Senate Foreign Affairs Committee, Canadian ambassador talk ties, region

Amman, Jan 19 (Petra) – The Senate Committee on Arab and International Affairs and Expatriates, chaired by Senator Hani Mulqi, on Monday discussed with Canadian Ambassador Louis-Martin Aumais prospects to enhance Jordanian-Canadian relations in various fields.

During the meeting, Mulqi spoke about the strong and historical ties, stressing the need to build on them and expand cooperation to serve the common interests of both countries and their peoples.

They also addressed regional and international issues of common interest, top of which is the Palestinian issue, with Mulqi calling for an end to suffering in the Gaza Strip and for Israel to live up to agreements it pledged to honor.

Mulqi also spoke about the importance of benefiting from Canada's leading expertise in dealing with unemployment as well as its education system that contributes to boosting economic growth and raising human capital efficiency.

The Kingdom, he said, undergoes a new phase in the economic and investment sectors that warrants expansion of cooperation and leveraging advanced Canadian expertise, particularly in education and economic sectors.

For his part, the Canadian envoy valued the deep relations with Jordan, reiterating his country's keenness to strengthenjoint cooperation in various sectors, especially the economy, investment, and technological education (Tech Ed).

He commended Jordan's pivotal role and efforts, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, in consolidating security and stability.

Members of the committee discussed the need to promote the exchange of expertise, particularly in the tourism sector, to support sustainable development efforts and bolster the partnership between the two countries.
