33/ Jerash governorate moves to curb risks posed by agricultural ponds
Jerash, Jan. 18 (Petra) - Jerash Governor Malek Khreisat said the governorate has initiated measures to reduce the risks posed by agricultural ponds, noting that around 200 such ponds have been identified within the governorate’s boundaries. Khreisat said owners of the ponds will be invited to a meeting to brief them on the responsibilities incumbent upon them and to stress the need to comply with public safety measures. He added that stricter requirements will be imposed on pond owners to adopt all preventive and safety measures, including securing ponds with protective fencing and installing warning signs and guidance notices. Khreisat said the governorate’s public safety department, in coordination with the Jerash Agriculture Directorate and the Jerash Water Administration Directorate, has carried out field visits to all agricultural ponds to verify compliance with public safety standards and procedures and to take legal action against violators without leniency. He stressed that the safety of citizens is a red line that cannot be compromised, affirming that any negligence or violation related to agricultural ponds will be met with strict legal measures, including referral to the competent authorities. //Petra// AF
