  45/ Jordan, UNOPS Discuss Boosting Development and Humanitarian Cooperation

Amman, Jan. 14 (Petra) - Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Zeina Toukan discussed with United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) Jorge Moreira da Silva, in the presence of UNOPS Regional Director for the Middle East and Jordan Bana Kaloti, Director of UNOPS Multi-Country Office in Amman Muhammad Usman Akram, and UN Resident Coordinator in Jordan Sheri Ritsema-Anderson, ways to enhance joint cooperation related to development and humanitarian efforts.

According to a ministry statement issued on Wednesday, Toukan expressed her appreciation for UNOPS support in the fields of education, health care, social protection and infrastructure, and discussions were held on priorities for cooperation in the coming period.

Toukan pointed to the most important new and ongoing projects implemented by the organization and ways to expand Jordan’s benefit in the areas of health and social care in line with the priorities of the new executive program.

For his part, da Silva affirmed UNOPS’ commitment to strengthening cooperation with the Jordanian government through the implementation of a series of vital initiatives and projects in the social protection, health and water sectors, as well as the education sector in Jordan.

UN officials at the organization expressed interest in providing the necessary technical assistance to implement initiatives that fall within the development priorities of the Economic Modernization Vision.
