6/ PSD Issues Safety Alert as Severe Weather Hits Kingdom

Amman, Jan. 13 (Petra) -- The Public Security Directorate (PSD) has warned residents to stay vigilant as a powerful weather system continues to affect the country, bringing heavy rain, snow in some areas, and potential flash floods, particularly in low-lying regions.

Drivers are being urged to adjust their speed, remain alert, and avoid taking risks on waterlogged roads, which can lead to vehicle malfunctions or accidents. The PSD emphasized following official guidance, monitoring road updates, and cooperating with security personnel to ensure safety.

The PSD confirmed that its field teams are operating around the clock to respond to emergencies and provide assistance where needed. Citizens are also advised to steer clear of riverbeds and flood-prone areas, taking all necessary precautions to protect themselves and their families.

To promote safe driving in challenging conditions, the PSD recommended maintaining a firm grip on the steering wheel, reducing speed to allow better reaction time, keeping windshield wipers and defogging systems in good condition, and avoiding areas with standing water where road depth cannot be determined. Extra care is advised when turning on wet roads, as vehicles may skid.

The PSD reminded the public that the unified emergency number (911) is available for reporting accidents or requesting help. Authorities stressed that safeguarding lives requires everyone’s cooperation and adherence to safety measures during this severe weather episode.
