7/ PSD Warns of Severe Weather, Urges Safety Precautions

Amman, Jan. 12 (Petra) -- The Public Security Directorate (PSD) has issued a warning ahead of a weather system expected to hit the Kingdom from Monday evening. Forecasts indicate heavy rainfall in northern and central regions, as well as parts of the southwest, accompanied by thunderstorms, hail, and strong gusty winds.

The PSD emphasized the importance of adhering to precautionary guidelines and practicing safe behavior to reduce accidents of all kinds. It particularly stressed the need to avoid valleys, flood channels, and low-lying areas, especially during nighttime, and warned against attempting to cross water accumulations, whether on foot or by vehicle, due to the real danger they pose to lives and property.

Drivers were urged to exercise caution while driving on roads experiencing rainfall, due to the risk of skidding and reduced visibility. The Directorate also highlighted the need to inspect and maintain rainwater drainage channels to prevent water levels from rising and flooding homes, as well as ensuring the availability of water pumps, especially in homes below street level.

Regarding the use of heating devices, the PSD emphasized the importance of following safety procedures, not refueling heaters while they are operating, and not leaving them on while sleeping, while ensuring continuous proper ventilation to avoid cases of suffocation or fire.

The Directorate also called for securing loose objects that could be blown away by the strong winds accompanying the weather system, to maintain public safety. At the same time, it confirmed the readiness of its personnel to respond to any emergencies and urged citizens not to hesitate to contact the unified emergency number, 911, if needed.
